To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince Four orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner's motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword's point - he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. As Sage's journey continues, layer upon layer of treachery and deceit unfold, until finally a truth is revealed that proves more dangerous than all of the lies put together.

    A good book

I was fairly suprised by the book. I mean, it didn`t enchanted me from the get go. It seemed like a trite story, until it wasn`t. I guess that in a way the job was done because the story led me to like who I should like from the beginning and disliked who I should dislike, so the story clearly lead me where it wanted me to go and to me, that's the mark of a good enough writer. The plottwist made everything better though. Turned the book into something unexpected and captivated me and made sense what with all the clues spread through out the first half. I`m still on the fence about Sage but the first book made me look forward to learning more about him and the story, so a successful book in its endeavor to capture the audience and leave them wanting for more.
