Sara plunges into her Outback to rescue Julie, who was sucked into it through a brick wall near the end of The Maxx, v.4 (2005). Intriguingly enough, not until Sara has returned and apparently exploded does Julie, none the worse for wear, stroll onto the scene of Sara's departure in the company of Dave, the bum who once was the Maxx. Cut to Julie in the apartment Sara had shared with Steve, the psychic wannabe, just in time for her and son Mark to catch the Fred Flower and Uncle Italian Moose Show on TV. Then Dave shows up with the old Maxx costume Artie, Sara's father (aka Mr. Gone), found for him, just in time for a huge, white is (aka isz) to topple through a door. The is is Glorie, somehow, and eventually the six Maxx principals--Gone, Glorie, Sara, the Maxx, Julie, Mark--are reunited in time for the end of their world. As always, Kieth's graphic-novel cousin to Joyce's Finnegans Wake boggles the mind and dazzles the eyes.
