Citizens have two primary goals in the new Republic: to create clean energy and to create new human life. Those who cannot do either are of no use to society. This bleak and barren existence is all that eighteen-year-old Emmeline has ever known. She dutifully walks her energy board daily and accepts all male pairings assigned to her by the Authorities. Like most citizens, she keeps her head down and her eyes closed.

Until the day they come for her mother.

Woken up to the harsh reality of her life and her family’s future inside the Republic, Emmeline begins to search for the truth. Why are all citizens confined to ubiquitous concrete living spaces? Why are Compounds guarded by Gatekeepers who track all movements? Why are food, water and energy rationed so strictly? And, most important, why are babies taken from their mothers at birth? As Emmeline begins to understand the true objectives of Agenda 21 she realizes that she is up against far more than she ever thought. With the Authorities closing in, and nowhere to run, Emmeline embarks on an audacious plan to save her family and expose the Republic—but is she already too late?

Então este seria o "1984" do novo século, como afirma a propaganda? Pobre de nós que lemos Orwell...

Que fique claro: a premissa é mais do que válida. A sina ambientalista desenfreada e os planos globalistas de entidades como a ONU, quando levados às suas conclusões extremas e totalmente lógicas, levam, sim, a um cenário distópico como o retratado pelo livro. Não há segredo nenhum nisso (inclusive seus proponentes são bem explícitos neste quesito), uma vez que todos estes planejamentos centralizadores visam, justamente, a limitar a liberdade individual em prol de um "bem comum" que sabemos muito bem o que significa.

Há tantas, mas tantas possibilidades de desenvolver uma história rica sobre o totalitarismo benevolente do futuro que a pobreza de "Agenda 21" destaca-se tão rala e insípida quanto um dos "cubos" de alimentação do livro.

Harriet Parke amalgamou em 300 e poucas páginas conceitos exemplares como família, tradição, religião, liberdade, defesa do '2nd Amendment' (hehe) etc, porém faltou o importante elemento da 'história' em sua obra. A descrição da vida supercontrolada é boa e gera certa inquietude. Mas a falta de uma cadeia de eventos, de uma trama decente, incomoda. Talvez seja por gosto, para jogar na face do leitor a sensaboria da vida sob um regime ditatorial. Mas quem tem paciência para uma coisa dessas hoje em dia, sendo que há clássicos muito melhores sobre o assunto (e com mais história saborosamente recheando as folhas)?
