A journalist is bruttaly murdered in Jerusalem's Armenian Cathedral and Detective Arieh Ben-Roi is spoilt for leads. One, however, doesn't seem to fit with thw rest f the investigation- a link with a decades-old missing person's case in Egypt. Baffled, Bwn-Roi turns for help to his old friend and sparring partner, Inspector Yusuf Khalifa of the Luxor Police. Although stuggling with personal troubles and immersed in a case of his own- a series of mysterious well-poisonings in Eastern Desert- Khalifa agrees to do some digging. Wht he discovers will chage both men's lives for ever. As their investigations interwine, the detectives are drawn even deeper into a sinister web of violence, abuse, corporate malpractice and international terrorism. Paul Sussman, ele próprio arqueólogo de profissão, ensinou História na Universidade de Cambridge. Decidiu depois viajar pelo mundo, tendo durante um período de três anos ganho a vida como descobridor de túmulos, empreiteiro, vendedor de detergentes e ator. Em 1991 regressou a Inglaterra, onde foi um dos fundadores da revista The Big Issue. Desde então tem trabalhado como jornalista para a secção europeia da CNN, para a Rádio 4 e a GLR (London Live), e para os jornais The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Express, The Evening Standard e The Sunday Herald. Em 1997 foi nomeado o colunista inglês do ano pela Associação dos Editores de Publicações Periódicas. Nos últimos anos tem passados os meses de Outubro e Novembro em escavações no Vale dos Reis, onde desempenha a função de cronista oficial do Projecto de Túmulos Reais Amarna. Vive habitualmente em Londres. Ele atualmente vive em Londres com sua esposa e dois filhos.
