E não, o incesto não é o foco principal da história. Pelo contrário, o foco principal da história é a relação conturbada entre pais e filhos, e todos os seus devidos acontecimentos consequentes disso.

A relação incestuosa é apenas 1 dos efeitos causados por essa decisão egoista da mãe, que também foi causada por sua própria relação com os pais. Tudo, até o final da saga, gira em torno dessas consequências, do quanto isso afetou a vida dos quatro irmãos em geral até o fim de suas vidas.

As pessoas gostam de focalizar no romance mas ele só serve para mostrar o quão perturbadas as crianças ficaram, fazendo com que Cathy se entregasse para vários homens a fim de se preencher, de se sentir viva e pura, faz com que Chris se torne literalmente INCAPAZ de amar outra mulher sem ser a Cathy, pois ele desenvolve uma insegurança doentia em relação a mulheres, já que sua mãe, a mulher que ele mais amava e confiava, o traiu.

Cathy estava lá com ele. Apenas ela, mais ninguém. Esse amor, beirando a obsessão que ele sentia por ela NÃO era normal, não era romântica. Era doentia. Era consequência de uma infância devastada.

A Carrie se tornou uma garota cheia de medos e inseguranças, sentindo-se inferior às outras pessoas, suja, digna de sofrer, e indigna de ser amada. O Cory nem se fala.

Isso afetou também a família futura, pois o filho da cathy, Bart, desenvolve ESQUIZOFRENIA desde criança, o que o afeta até a vida adulta, e faz com que ele estrague a vida do irmão e da irmã. E tudo por causa do sótão.

O incesto é só a ponta do iceberg.

E aquele final da saga... foi o único livro que já me fez chorar na vida.
