Eros and lonely man

An unnamed first-person narrator grows up without a father and with a very prudish mother who tyrannize him. His confrontation with the existence of sexuality is problematic. He seems unable to enter into a normal relationship.

As an adult, he becomes a remover of attics. He steals a telescope and surrenders to voyeurism, exhibitionism and even attempted rape of a minor. His pornographic paintings are not taken seriously.

A counterpart is his contemporary Paul Boonen. This marries his childhood love Sleeping Beauty, and get recognition as a writer.

After his fiftieth, the narrator live with his one year old niece.
