Ryunosuke Akutagawa (1892-1927) is often referred to as the Father of the Japanese Short Story. Born in 1892, he is known for inventive and playful language, as well as his pessimistic, satirical social commentary. The premiere Japanese literary award is named for him. 3 Strange Tales presents new translations of this classic Japanese author's most well-known stories: Rashomon; A Christian Death; the never-before-published-in-Enlgish story, Agni; and a bonus story, In a Grove.
