The story of Rosalie, daughter of Baroness de Watteville. Her mother wants her to marry M. de Soulas, but Rosalie is more interested in Savaron, a mysterious young lawyer. Then Savaron publishes a story in which he describes the adventures of a young man in love with a princess. Soon Rosalie realises the princess really exists and the young man in the story is Savaron, and she plots to make the princess believe that Savaron is no longer loves her. As a consequence, the princess, meanwhile widowed, marries another man and Savaron disappears from Besançon...
