Ele cresceu no Maine de Stephen King e foi inspirado por histórias em quadrinhos, Star Wars e desenhos animados de sábado de manhã. Escreveu aos 8 anos sua primeira história épica, O Homem Lagarto do Centro da Terra. Ele vendeu seu primeiro escrito aos 17 anos para um jornal local, e aos 19 completou seu PhD quádruplo em estudos da literatura inglesa, arqueologia, física quântica e dança interpretativa.
