Em geral eu gosto muito dos livros do Matthew Quick. Nem tanto pelos plots, mas a escrita dele sempre me cativa. É fluida, sagaz, sempre bem ritimada. Mas Love May Fail é, disparado, o pior livro dele que eu já li até hoje.

É um livro sobre uma crise de meia idade, com vários personagens passando por crises existenciais e, no final, se reencontrando apesar de não muita coisa espetacular acontecer. Eu ODIEI a personagem principal, Portia Kane. Que mulherzinha insuportável. Mimada, egoísta, arrogante e cheia de white people problems. Argh. Eu provavelmente deveria me solidarizar com a vida dele, que é bem difícil por vários motivos, mas ela não ajuda, então não rolou.

O fato do interesse amoroso dela se chamar CHUCK BASS me incomodou profundamente. Existem certos nomes nesse mundo que você simplesmente não pode usar aleatoriamente, e eu sinto que Gossip Girl fez sucesso suficiente pra que Chuck Bass - que nem é um nome tão comum assim - seja um desses. O Matthew Quick tava morando debaixo de uma pedra? É como você ler um livro com um personagem qualquer chamado Harry Potter. Não dá pra desconectar.

Leitura chata, personagens chatos, resolução que não me emocionou em nada. Matthew Quick já foi melhor.
