Doctrine and Devotion must never be separated. Doctrine is to Christian experience what bones are to the body. Just as a body without bones would be utterly useless, so is Christian experience without doctrinal roots. It is like cut flowers stuck in the ground---they may look pleasant for a while, but ultimately they will whither and die. The other side of this truth is equally valid and instructive, that is, bones without flesh are but a dead skeleton!
