Now he is a movie star, the one who makes women of all ages go into a screaming frenzy, the one who makes everyone swoon with that dimpled smile of his. Do you think that’s dreamy? I certainly don’t think so. How about me coming face to face with him? Nope still not dreamy. Not when I can’t even manage to look him in the eye.

Me? I’m Olive, a new writer. Actually, I’m THE writer of the book that inspired the movie he is about to star in on the big screen. As of late, I am also referred to as the oh-so-very-lucky girl who is about to become the wife of Jason Thorn.Maybe you’re thinking yet again that this is all so dreamy? Nope, nothing dreamy going on here. Not even close.

“My world is a less scary place with you in it.”

Iniciei a leitura com expectativas de retratar uma comédia romântica leve e amável ao considerar a própria capa do livro… mas para minha infelicidade, acabou sendo um new adult imensamente apelativo, que nem ao menos valorizou o enredo, que tinha um extremo potencial.
Não pude evitar ponderar sobre como os personagens possuem personalidades completamente saturadas: A heroína, que age como uma criança em diversos momentos. O mocinho, galanteador e que nunca pensa em consequências. E a amiga da protagonista, que deveria desempenhar o papel de alívio cômico mas que possui um humor bem insosso.
—Tudo reciclado de uma maneira cansativa… até no caso dos personagens secundários e de pouco destaque.
Não irei nem ao menos me aprofundar sobre a dependência e as atitudes da protagonista, extremamente imaturas que chegavam a causar desconforto. A tentativa falha da autora de passar a imagem de engraçada e sensível para a mesma só serviu para deixar-lá mais infantil.
Entretanto, particularmente, a cereja do bolo foi o quão inadequadamente a autora lidou com as atitudes problemáticas na história, as quais passaram sem nenhuma consequência ou atenção adicional.
“To love Jason Thorn” possuía tudo para ser um livro bom… um encontro após anos com seu primeiro amor, e um romance entre uma autora e aquele que vive seu personagem, mas se transformou em um livro forçado, e apesar do enredo, genérico.
Portanto, esse definitivamente não é um livro que me agradou o suficiente para uma futura releitura, e que, por conta das expectativas, foi sim decepcionante.
