Terry Pratchett (1948-2015) foi um escritor inglês. É o autor da série de livros de fantasia “Discworld”, que o tornou um dos escritores britânicos mais lidos no mundo. Terry Pratchett (forma abreviada de Terence David John Pratchett) nasceu em Beaconsfield, na Inglaterra, no dia 28 de abril de 1948. Com treze anos de idade vendeu sua primeira história. Em 1971, publicou sua primeira novela humorística “The Carpet People”. Trabalhou como assessor de imprensa e no jornalismo, só em 1983 publicou “A Cor da Magia”, seu primeiro livro da série de fantasia “Discworld”. Discworld é uma série ambientada em um mundo em formato de disco, sustentado por quatro elefantes carregados por uma tartaruga gigante que viaja pelo espaço. Diversas entidades, de relacionamento nada pacífico habitam esse mundo. Rincewind, um dos personagens mais famosos da série é um mago que foi reprovado na escola de magia. Em 1998, Terry foi nomeado Oficial da Ordem do Império Britânico. Em 2009, foi nomeado Cavaleiro, pelos serviços prestados à literatura. Em 2010, recebeu o Prêmio World Fantasy Award pelo conjunto da obra. A série Discworld, com mais de 40 livros, já foi publicada em mais de trinta e seis idiomas. O romance da série “Snuff”, lançado em 2011, vendeu em três dias, mais de 55 mil cópias. Autor de 70 livros, Terry terminou o último, um novo romance da série Discworld, em meados de 2014. Terry Pratchett foi diagnosticado, em 2007, com uma forma rara de Alzheimer, falecendo em sua casa em Broad Chalke, na Inglaterra, no dia 12 de março de 2015.
