Magnífico!

Um daqueles livros difíceis de classificar. Tem aspectos literários, históricos, filosóficos... e é mesmo tudo isso.

Pelo título, o leitor é levado a acreditar que vai se deparar com uma espécie de "manual" do cortesão, escrito no século XVI. Entretanto, é (muito) mais que isso: sim, lemos o que caracterizaria um perfeito cortesão, que atividades deveria praticar, como entreter uma reunião, como ser admirado etc. Mas o autor leva a discussão a outro patamar quando discute, por exemplo, a situação das mulheres: seriam elas capazes de virtudes, tais como os homens? Uma acalorada, longa e instrutiva discussão se segue, para nosso deleite e aprendizado. Também uma magnífica explanação sobre o amor, que está presente de modo mais incisivo no final do livro, merece destaque.

Dividido em 04 livros, a obra tem como mote uma reunião que se segue durante 04 dias na residência de uma nobre, na qual se trata do perfil que um cortesão deve ostentar. Diversos personagens (históricos e lendários) são evocados no decorrer do texto e, para auxiliar o leitor, esta edição conta, em seu início, com um rol dos personagens que se apresentarão na obra. Ao final, diversas notas que também tratam de pessoas e fatos citados nas falas desses personagens.
