A Loner's Worst Nightmare: Human Interaction Hachiman Hikigaya is a cynic. He believes "youth" is a crock — a sucker's game, an illusion woven from failure and hypocrisy. But when he turns in an essay for a school assignment espousing this view, he's sentenced to work in the Service Club, an organization dedicated to helping students with problems! Worse, the only other member of the club is the haughty Yukino Yukinoshita, a girl with beauty, brains, and the personality of a garbage fire. How will Hachiman the Cynic cope with a job that requires — gasp! — social skills?

The real youth is not the media one

When ms. Hiratsuka realizes that Hikigaya Hachiman, her student, is having social problems, she proposes to him joining at the Service Club - a club where the members tries helping people with their problems - and there the boy will meet Yukinoshita and his high school days will change little by little. With strong convictions about youth and teen experience, Hikigaya faces the high school period contrasting the ideal youth - what teenagers expect and watch in movies, animes or read in novels - with the real one. He realizes that in real life you generally don't hang out with that beautiful girl or you don't have enough friends or you don't join at a giant club and we'll win the national tournament. In the end, Hikigaya is the teen with a pesimist perspective of reality based on some truths and try to aplicate that for every situation. It's interesting to see how his guard goes down bit a bit 'till the point his convictions will be confronted and some hope is urging. It was a really fun experience and I had more laughs than I could tell. Watari Wataru used a lot of references to japanese culture that made us stay close to the characters. Then, I really must confess, I really liked the characters interactions and chat moments. I'm enjoying this so much. Excited to the next one (we'll be reading the second volume next month). See you them all there, I hope.
