No livro acompanhamos Gwendy, da infância até a idade adulta, e tudo que ela passa por ser a guardiã de uma pequena caixa de botões mágica. O livro se passa em Castle Rock, uma das grandes cidades fictícias do universo do King. E é um livro do autor que não dá medo.

Eu senti que esse livro é uma fantasia muito diferente de tudo que eu já li do King! E foi uma boa descoberta porque eu gostei demais. E acabei descobrindo que tem uma continuação chamada Gwendy's Magic Feather que é escrito apenas pelo Richard Chizmar, mas eu já quero! Gwendy é uma protagonista muito carismática e eu quero saber o que mais acontece com ela.
