Excelente e, atualmente, mais do que necessário

Mais do que um clamor para que tenhamos mais opiniões baseadas em fatos, o livro tem uma abordagem que procura ser realista e, ainda assim, nos mostrar que a onda de pessimismo em que vivemos é infundada e que há espaço para esperança.
Outro ponto crucial é alegação de que a adoção, por parte da esquerda (chamados de liberais nos estados unidos), de uma postura de desprezo por valores fundamentais como verdade, racionalidade e progresso, bem como pelo empreendimento científico de maneira geral, não é benéfica para a condição humana e não é necessária para a solução dos problemas (reais e legítimos) que essa postura supostamente poderia combater. Pior: no fim das contas, torna qualquer perspectiva de busca por satisfação, felicidade, eliminação do sofrimento ou qualquer outro valor que não dependa exclusivamente das vontades individuais muito mais remota.
