Tendo terminado <i>Read Dangerously</i>, quase imediatamente emendei com outro volume de Nafisi - afinal, a autora tem uma voz, um estilo de escrita e um padrão de pensamento que casam muito com a minha noção de literatura como ferramenta de união, empatia e resistência.

Às vezes, diante de situações insustentáveis, de risco e revolução, pode parecer que lutar por livros seja algo supérfluo. Nafisi nos lembra, contudo, que, diante do autoritarismo, da intolerância, da perseguição, são as ideias que nos sustentam, ideias que muitas vezes encontramos nesses velhos clássicos, em romances, peças de teatro, poemas, histórias que constroem a nossa identidade, que nos dão coragem para enfrentar os perigos, e esperança de que é possível mudar.

<i>The Republic of Imagination</i>, em específico, trata da mudança de Nafisi do Irã para os Estados Unidos, o processo de naturalização e sua investigação pessoal sobre a alma do que agora era seu novo país - uma investigação que passa por Mark Twain, Sinclair Lewis, Carson McCulleers e James Baldwin. Não foi uma leitura tão impactante quando <i>Read Dangerously</i>, talvez por ser mais dependente do conhecimento prévio que o leitor tenha das obras escolhidas para a investigação da autora. Mas oferece ideias e argumentos interessantes e me abriu o detetive para ir atrás dos autores citados.
