Denise Levertov
Denise Levertov (1923-1997) nasceu em Ilford, Inglaterra, e foi poeta, tradutora, ensaísta, editora e professora. Com doze anos enviou alguns poemas a T. S. Eliot, que a incentivou a prosseguir. Há em sua vida três fatores que permearam muito sua poética: 1) a educação informal e religiosa que teve pelos pais; 2) ter servido durante a Segunda Guerra como enfermeira, o que influenciou muito o seu engajamento social e político, algo que se intensificou na década de 60 e 70 (escrevendo alguns poemas sobre a Guerra do Vietnã, por exemplo) e que permeou toda a sua obra poética, direta e indiretamente; 3) a ida (sem retorno) para os Estados Unidos na década de 40, onde lecionou em diversas universidades ao longo de sua vida e influenciou-se muito com os poetas de Black Mountain – W.
