Do livro: "a Internet traz o início de uma era das trevas, habitada por acéfalos de olhos vidrados, que julgam a verdade pelo número de polegares para cima e a sabedoria, pelo número de visualizações." Ao longo dos anos, essa tecnologia transformou nossa sociedade completamente, embora raramente entendamos seu funcionamento por completo. Estamos tão imersos nela que, diariamente, ela nos diz como nos comportar e pensar. Fazemos bem pouco sem ela e, até agora, nossa resposta tem sido passiva, não significando que vivamos melhor (o oposto tem sido mais que verdade). Temos informações demais para pensar com clareza sobre nosso curso de ação. Não podemos desfazer as coisas que fizemos e prevemos mal o que acontecerá no futuro, pois já, para usar um termo literário, "cruzamos o Rubicão". Porém podemos enfrentar a realidade, falar a verdade sobre o que está acontecendo e agir com justeza da maneira que pudermos. Esta é a premissa desse livro esclarecedor, ainda mais relevante nessa época de discussão sobre limites nas/das fake news.
