Um pouco forçado

A ideia geral é interessante e a história até prende, apesar da linguagem não ser tão coerente com o tipo de sociedade que o livro retrata. Por outro lado, a maioria das personagens é muito forçada, assim como boa parte dos acontecimentos tem pouca lógica com a própria história.

Ceres é uma jovem pobre, amada pelo pai e pelos irmãos, mas odiada pela mãe. Ela sonha em se tornar uma guerreira, o que é proibido para mulheres no local em que vivem, ao invés de seguir a carreira do pai, que é ferreiro, atividade em que ela também demonstra bastante talento. O Império de Delos, onde vivem, é dominado por um rei e uma rainha mesquinhos e autoritários, uma nobreza extremamente gananciosa e um exército mesquinho e opressor, enquanto as classes mais pobres e oprimidas estão com dificuldades de ter até comida suficiente para sobreviver. Uma revolução está prestes a emergir, principalmente depois do rei decidir dobrar o valor das taxas e exigir que o filho mais velho de cada família entre para o exército.
