Lord Jim é desses livros que você lê e se pergunta: "e daí?" Hoje em dia tanta gente comete erros atrozes e isso sequer lhes afeta a rotina, a consciência. Ora. Lord Jim é a personificação do desvairado, que larga o mundo real por não se adaptar a ele e cria um outro mundo muito, muito pior. Bem mereceu o fim que teve, que, de fato, deveria ter ocorrido bem antes. A escrita de Joseph Conrad não é das mais agradáveis e creio que este livro, juntamente com O coração das trevas, que é bem melhor, serão os dois únicos que terei lido do autor.
