Tally isn't ashamed of being autistic -- even if it complicates life sometimes, it's part of who she is. But this is her first year at Kingswood Academy, and her best friend, Layla, is the only one who knows. Something is different about sixth grade, and Tally now feels like she has to act "normal." But as Tally hides her true self, she starts to wonder what "normal" means after all and whether fitting in is really what matters most.

É uma recontagem maravilhosamente simples, mas eficaz, do mundo de Tally, uma garota autista, quando ela inicia o ensino médio. O livro alterna entre uma narrativa em terceira pessoa e as anotações do diário de Tally, que oferecem ao leitor uma visão de como ela está se sentindo e fornece fatos, prós e contras sobre ser autista.

Isso me fez sorrir; me fez chorar; isso me deixou frustrado às vezes. Isso me ajudou a entender mais sobre como posso apoiar as crianças autistas que ensino. Eu sei que isso acontecerá com outras crianças da minha classe, então com certeza irei ler para elas. É uma excelente forma de convidar à discussão sobre a transição para o ensino secundário em geral e de encorajar as pessoas a serem mais receptivas uns com os outros.

Pode ser um livro infantil, mas acho que é uma leitura obrigatória para todos.
