Dust jacket notes: "Death and Santa Claus are the joint protagonists of Mr. Cummings' Morality. Or perhaps we should make that three, with all-the-world playing an equal part. For here, as in all his work, Mr. Cummings is deeply aware of the actions of masses of people since it is first and always the individual for whom he writes. Much of the surface action of the play is the result of a reversal of personalities. When Death and Santa Claus exchange masks the world is unimpressed since it is unknowing. The Child feels it intuitively, but the Woman (who is love) knows. Here, as in so much of his poetry, Mr. Cummings writes with that superb lyricism which has made him one of our most important poets. More than that, he shows us a world which is so real we have first to remove our own masks in order to comprehend it."
