First published in Czech in 1942, Saturnin is a gentle satire that has been hailed as a classic of Czech literature. The novel's main character, a valet named Saturnin, whose personality is a hilarious combination of fastidiousness and mischievousness, wages a constant battle to protect his shy master from romantic disaster and intrusive relatives.

The story mostly centers on a two-week trip the main character takes with Saturnin to his grandpa’s house in the country and the hilarious small adventures that befall everyone involved.
