Twelve new poets expand the representation of forms and techniques as well as the historical and geographic range of English-language poetry. Among the poets newly included are Richard Wright, Weldon Kees, Robyn Sarah, Charles Bernstein, Anne Carson, and Simon Armitage.
New help with syntax and versification. "Poetic Syntax", a new essey by Margaret Ferguson, provides indispensable help with a perennial stumbling block - how to recognize, describe, analyze, and interpret syntactic ambiguity in English poetry. "Versification", by Jon Stallworthy, now includes clearer explanations of rhyme and more attention to forms and to the metrics of early verse.
Strengthened apparatus. Annotations throughout have been fine-tuned and clarified, and biographical sketches have been updated. A bolder typeface makes reading easier.
