West of the Sun

After eleven years in space, the Argo crash-lands on the dangerous, unknown planet Lucifer. Full of hope and excitement, with the duty to colonize and populate, the six explorers encounter an untamed alien world full of bat-winged monsters, furred, ten-foot-tall men; and armies of man-eating pygmies.

But for each threat, objects of great beauty await them, blue fireflies, red-green forest, vast mountains, and deep seas. Now, with ever-dwindling supplies and a war in the making, these Earth pioneers must survive and create a new civilization against the deadly forces of a strange and distant planet.
