Stefania Auci nasceu em Trapani, na Sicília, em 1974, e tem uma intensa relação afetiva com a cidade de Palermo, o que se reflete nas apaixonantes investigações a que se dedicou para escrever a história da família Florio. Foi com muita dedicação que levou a cabo uma profunda pesquisa em bibliotecas e crónicas jornalísticas da época em que a ação decorre, tendo explorado as propriedades dos Florio e recolhido com minúcia os fios da História, incluindo trajes, canções, cartas, garrafas, joias, navios, estátuas… O resultado é uma narrativa que dissipa as névoas do tempo e devolve aos Florio a sua extraordinária e impressionante vitalidade. Mesmo antes da sua publicação em Itália, os direitos de tradução do livro Os Leões da Sicília já tinham sido adquiridos por editores de vários países como Estados Unidos da América, Alemanha, França, Espanha e Holanda.
