It's a honest and well-written book. His critique of the arguments for inerrancy, specially regarding the genocides in the Old Testament, is very solid and scholarly. However, in my view, his proposal also fails. He seems to assume, for example, that the solo purpose of scripture is moral development, a point which he doesn't prove.
