estilo maravilhoso - linguagem rica - tema atraente

O jovem que narra a história nos fala de um mundo monótono e capitalista, em uma família patriarcal. O pai, figura central da família, é obcecado pela idéia de criação, e desenvolve interessantes experimentos e teorias, que expõe aos filhos e à mulher, sobre a natureza das criaturas vivas, da potencialidade da vida, não sendo acompanhado pelos ouvintes, que o têm por original ou louco. Sua filha Adèle é a única que consegue fazer com que ele se cale ou saia de cena, ameaçando fazer-lhe cócegas, que ele teme. Em um dos experimentos, o pai se tranca no sótão incubando centenas de ovos de pássaros diferentes, que crescem e ali vivem até que Adèle abra a janela e os expulse. O pai definha de varias formas, fica enrugado, transforma-se em animais, esconde-se pelos cantos, à medida que a família o exclui ou ignora. Ele desenvolve interessantes teorias a respeito do tempo, também, e compara a humanidade a bonecos, modelos da mente do Criador. Ele mesmo se empenha em tornar-se um Criador e escapar da monotonia do mundo. É um livro simbólico, cheio de metáforas, muito bem escrito.
