Everyone talks about falling in love, but falling in friendship can be just as captivating. When Neela Devaki’s song is covered by internet-famous artist Rukmini, the two musicians meet and a transformative friendship begins. But as Rukmini’s star rises and Neela’s stagnates, jealousy and self-doubt creep in. With a single tweet, their friendship implodes, one career is destroyed, and the two women find themselves at the center of an internet firestorm. Celebrated multidisciplinary artist Vivek Shraya’s second novel is a stirring examination of making art in the modern era, a love letter to brown women, an authentic glimpse into the music industry, and a nuanced exploration of the promise and peril of being seen.

"...until the melody became not familiar, but family. Blood"

It's a good book, it brings important discussions and nice representation (as long I can see, I'm not 100% sure for all characters). I read all of it but was very irritating because I don't like the "structure". The book don't have chapters and it's divided in 4 parts, there's so much time jumps like through backs of nowhere one sec you're reading about today then another you are like six months before. the author change the narrative for third for first person, and because do not have chapters when the narrative focus change feels very weird. It's really no for me this structure. As I say: there is importante discussions but it's so dramatic, it's like they have 16 and with so much time to be on twitter. All that matters feels overwhelmed by that drama of misunderstandings and miscommunication. And the dialogue or discussions don't really happen because one character simple don't appear anymore, she just like ??? I don't even know if the plot really was developed.
