How they thwart the wicked plans of the evil witch Mombi and overcome the rebellion of General Jinjur and her army of young women is a tale as exciting and endearing today as it was when first published over eighty years ago.

A ~talvez não tão~ Maravilhosa terra de Oz.

“A Maravilhosa Terra de Oz”, uma história sem Dorothy, em que o protagonista Tip, um garoto órfão, cuidado por uma bruxa, foge com o seu “filho” Jack, o Cabeça de Abóbora, quando esta ameaça o garoto. Ao longo do caminho Tip dá a vida a um cavalo de madeira, Saw-Horse e quando se vê está em meio a uma revolução da General Jinjur na tentativa de derrubar o Espantalho, atual rei de Oz.

Este é apenas os primeiros capítulos da história. Muita coisa diferente acontece neste segundo livro da série dos livros de Oz e por mais que tenha algumas das coisas mais interessantes (inclusive uma visão interessante e moderna de Baum) e ser uma história boa, acabei tendo certos problemas.

Algumas escolhas de como as coisas funcionam são muito arbitrárias e há escolhas meio estranhas sobre os personagens.

Isso pode ser meio spoiler, então pule o parágrafo se quiser, mas não sei o porque todo mundo é tão desnecessariamente mal com o Jack! O próprio Homem de Lata que se diz ter um coração, e ele vai lembrar isso sempre, diz algumas coisas sem sentido e o Espantalho, sem mentira nenhuma, diz “‘Isso é um aviso para você nunca pensar’ respondeu o Espantalho, severamente ‘Pois se um inútil não pode pensar sabiamente melhor permanecer tolo - o que certamente você é!’” E comentários assim são jogados para o Jack ao longo do livro inteiro. Isso além de que tem um personagem aleatório que aparece no meio da história que não serve para absolutamente nada se não fazer alguns comentários sobre a situações.

Tirando o grande empecilho acima citado e algumas outras coisas envolvendo a resolução da General Jinjur e seu exército, foi uma leitura interessante, com um dos finais mais interessantes também para a época e que claramente terá peso para as aventuras futuras.
