This well-written thoughtful story, “The Gun,” can be read as a parable and also as a warning. A space ship sees a ruined planer, destroyed by atomic bombs. The ground is covered with ash, but there are some protruding structures. Suddenly, without warning, the ship was attacked by an atomic shell and was severely injured. The crew had to land on the planet to make repairs. Who shot at the space ship and did it so accurately? Was there still life of some sort despite the poisoned atmosphere? What will they find on the planet? They land and discover a huge gun, the gun that shot their ship and a large treasure. Was the gun protecting the treasure? What was the treasure?
