Quando eu vi as promos desse livro dizendo, A história de uma mulher negra se passando por branca, eu pensei: ué que lazeira é essa?! Só depois de ler que fui entender o motivo.

O livro se passa no começo dos anos 60 até o fim dos anos 80, período esse carregado de preconceito e descriminação por todo o canto dos EUA. E é aí que que começa a história de duas irmãs gêmeas bivitelinas, uma nasceu com a pele mais escura e outra mais clara. Ambas se separam enquanto eram mais jovens e vivem suas vidas sem contato nenhum desde então...

Enquanto uma sofre todo o preconceito da cidade por ser uma mulher negra e incansavelmente busca procurar sua irmã. A outra vive uma vida de estrela em ascensão interpretando papel de pessoas brancas e em alguns momentos renegando a sua identidade ou até mascarando. Até que uma personagem aprece e amarra o laço das duas.
