Em um ritmo intenso e uma sociedade muito religiosa, onde tudo é controlado por um homem conhecido como o Profeta sob as leis da igreja e das escrituras sagradas, temos Immanuelle que desde seu nascimento é julgado com base nos atos de sua mãe. Nesta sociedade, as leis da igreja são obedecidas e a floresta que os circula é evitada por ser conhecida como o lar de 4 bruxas, dentre elas Lilith, a rainha bruxa. Mas não demora muito para que Immanuelle comece a ouvir a floresta e a magia chamar pelo seu nome, fazendo a encontrar o diário de sua falecida mãe e então, começar a conhecer seu passado para entender seu presente.

É uma história atmosférica com uma sociedade assustadora e com uma magia instigante que parece ser ainda mais complexa do que é mostrado neste livro. As relações e os personagens foram um plus pra mim porque eu me importei com todos, entendendo a extensão e falhas de suas relações interpessoais e suas relações com a sociedade, e os personagens odiosos foram odiados com MUITO sucesso. Immanuelle é uma ótima protagonista, ela é forte e justa, sempre mantendo em vista o que lhe importava mais e era lindo e emocionante ler ela descobrindo seu poder e sua magia.

O livro é muito envolvente e rápido de ler, mas houve momentos em que o ritmo lento pesou muito, talvez por ainda estar conhecendo o universo, mas após alguns eventos e descobertas, é muito difícil largar o livro. Levando em consideração o desenvolvimento que os atos anteriores de Immanuelle tiveram, o final soou abrupto demais, muito corrido. A resolução em si foi satisfatória mas deixa uma pulguinha atrás da orelha.

The Year of the Witching é um bom livro para quem quer uma história de terror, fantasia e ficção histórica com bruxas.
