O livro é dividido em diversas partes que falam sobre a vida do autor e sua relação com os livros em cada fase da vida. As primeiras partes relacionadas à sua infância e adolescência são incríveis e inspiradoras, essenciais para quem quer escrever fantasia e ficção infantil. A última parte do livro, porém, não vale o esforço. Fiquei frustrada com a mudança de tom e de comentários relevantes sobre literatura. Ele basicamente começa a falar de suas frustrações relacionadas à intimidade física e a busca por pornografia na literatura.
