Em solo infértil, uma árvore cresce...

Já estou com saudades da Francie e do Brooklyn. QUE LIVRO! Este livro nos Estados Unidos, está no mesmo patamar de importância de Huckleberry Finn e O Grande Gatsby. Pena que fora de lá ele seja tão mal conhecido e reconhecido.
Pela minha pesquisa este foi o primeiro livro da Betty Smith , publicado na década de 40 e em semanas vendeu milhares de cópias. Este livro se enquadra no "coming-of-age" e nele acompanhamos o crescimento e amadurecimento da Francie Noolan e de toda a sua família. Não acontece nada fantástico, é "apenas" a história de uma garota de um bairro pobre, porém a forma como ela é conduzida e escrita é que mostra o talento da autora. Terminei o livro sentindo falta dos personagens, de todos eles, cada um a sua maneira espelha uma característica da sociedade e é impossível olhar para eles e não reconhecer neles nossas atitudes ou semelhanças com pessoas que compartilham a nossa rotina.
É um livro simples, bem escrito e que aborda todo tipo de tema, desde a velhice até a amizade entre mulheres, de política a economia, de nascimento a luto. Livro completo e que deixou marcas em mim.
