James Patrick Rothfuss
Patrick Rothfuss nasceu em Madison, Wisconsin e converteu-se em um assíduo leitor em parte devido ao mau tempo e à carência de televisão a cabo. Se matriculou na Universidade de Wisconsi-Stevens Point em 1991. Durante esta época dedicou-se a trabalhar em diversos e estranhos trabalhos e ao mesmo tempo dedicou-se a trabalhar em uma novela de fantasía extremamente longo chamada The Song of Flame and Thunder. Também começou a escrever o "Guia de Sobrevivência na Universidade" em uma coluna de The Pointer, o jornal do campus. Se graduou ano de 1999. Depois de completar The Song of Flame and Thunder Rothfuss enviou a várias editoriais, mas foi recusada. No ano 2002 ganhou a competição Escritores do futuro com The Road to Levinshir,assim Rothfuss vendeu a novela a DAW Books.
