Irwin Shaw
Irwin Shaw nasceu com o nome de Gilbert Shamforoff no sul do Bronx, Nova Iorque, de judeus russos imigrantes. Seus pais eram Rosa e Will. Seu irmão mais novo, David Shaw (falecido em 2007), tornou-se um famoso produtor de Hollywood. Logo após o nascimento de Irwin, os Shamforoffs mudaram para o Brooklyn. Irwin mudou seu sobrenome após entrar na faculdade. Ele passou a maior parte de sua juventude no Brooklyn, onde se graduou na Brooklyn College com um grau de Bachelor of Arts em 1934. Shaw morreu em Davos, Suíça, em 16 de maio de 1984, aos 71 anos, depois de ser submetido a um tratamento para câncer de próstata.
