Valarie Hartman
Nascida em 1961 como Valarie Hartman, durante a faculdade ela mudou seu nome para Saidiya — a pronúncia é "sadia", com o "i" alongado. Uma das principais intelectuais da atualidade, é escritora, professora de literatura comparada na Universidade Columbia, e cofundadora do The Sojourner Project, uma academia online de Estudo Negros formada por artistas e intelectuais de diferentes campos do conhecimento para pensar e debater diversos aspectos vida negra contemporâne, e autora de livros como como “Perder a mãe” [Lose Your Mother], lançado originalmente em 2006; “Cenas de sujeição” [Scenes of Subjection] (1997), e “Vidas rebeldes, belos experimentos” [Wayward Lives: Beautiful Experiments] (2019), este último vencedor do National Book Critics Circle Award. Tem desenvolvido pesquisas nos campos da história da escravidão e literatura afro-americana, trabalho reconhecido por diversas distinções acadêmicas e bolsas de pesquisa, como a MacArthur “Genius Grant”, Guggenheim e Fulbright.
