Com esse livro eu concluo a leitura de todos os livros do autor, Charlie Donlea. A leitura como sempre é bem fluida e tão instigante que você perde o tempo lendo, quando vê já finalizou.

O início desse livro eu achei o mais lento que outros que já li do autor, mas em algum momento a história ganha um ritmo ótimo me prendendo do início ao fim.

A história inicia no ano de 2001, meses antes ao ataque terrorista às Torres Gêmeas em Nova York. Um caso sórdido é destinado como primeiro trabalho para o detive Walt Jenkins. Um romancista de sucesso dos anos 90 é assassinado, a principal suspeita é a sua amante, Victoria Ford.

Victoria é uma das vítimas da destruição das torres e morreu sem conseguir provar a sua inocência. Duas décadas depois, o caso do romancista famoso Cameron Young, retorna para às mãos do ex-detetive Walt.

Avery Mason é uma jornalista investigava conceituada que trabalha para show business. Ela acaba se envolvendo no caso de Victoria quando os seus restos mortais são localizados no banco de evidências e extensa pesquisa de reconhecimento das centenas de vidas perdidas no ataque terrorista de 2001.

A jornalista embarca para Nova York em busca de uma história para o seu programa, mas acaba descobrindo evidências perturbadoras sobre o caso, e principalmente sobre a vítima localizada que também é réu de um caso de assassinato.

Os personagens apresentados durante a narrativa possuem grandes segredos, que ao longo do livro é feito os desdobramentos das suas histórias.

Eu gostei bastante do livro e indico para quem gosta de mistério e plot twist.
