Akwaeke Emezi
AKWAEKE EMEZI nasceu em 1987, na Nigéria, em Umuahia, mas cresceu em Aba. Atualmente vive nos Estados Unidos. Em 2017, recebeu uma bolsa do “Global Arts Fund”para realizar a videoarte de seu projeto The Unblinding, e uma bolsa “Sozopol Fellowship for Creative Nonfiction”. Akwaeke identifica-se como Ọgbanje, palavra da cultura Igbo que significa um espírito intruso que nasce em uma forma humana, e que resultaria em uma criança com um terceiro gênero. Traduzindo isto para sua realidade terrena, Akweke nasceu em um corpo feminino, mas não é mulher, identificando-se como trans e utilizando pronomes neutros para se referir a si.
