City of Stairs como muitos livros da nova geração se empenha em construir um mundo fantástico para a história. É uma mistura de fantasia com mitologia em que deuses se misturam ao aparelho burocrático de uma cidade - a ideia é intrigante, mas infelizmente a execução deixou a desejar.

Os personagens são rasos, unidimensionais, o que faz com que percam um pouco daquele elemento de interesse em uma obra de mistério e assassinato.

Conforme a trama se desenrola, novos elementos são adicionados, contudo eles não fornecem gancho para as narrativas anteriores, mais parecendo contos separados do que capítulos. E como o próprio sistema de magia não é bem explicado, as incoerências vão se acumulando, tornando a história confusa.

Enfim, City of Stairs tinha muito potencial, mas aparentemente Bennett se perdeu nas possibilidades. Falta de uma boa revisão.
