Levei alguns dias pra conseguir digerir Mary e finalmente organizar meus pensamentos sobre a história. Mary é um livro muito bom, mas que demanda um pouco de paciência por ser bem lento na metade. esse foi meu maior problema com o livro, pois já nos 50% eu estava??? ainda tem mais outra metade??? não acaba nunca? MAS apesar de ter decaído no ritmo pra mim, eu entendo o motivo e não acho que nada tenha sido desnecessário. e por isso ainda estou dividida entre 3,5 e 4 estrelas.

o tom da história é inegavelmente feminino. não só por estarmos na cabeça da própria Mary, mas os temas que compõem a narrativa geral da história: sobre feminilidade em uma sociedade patriarcal que vê a mulher apenas em sua utilidade sexual, e sobre a invisibilidade da mulher em menopausa diante dessa perda de serventia. é uma história sobre seitas, crueldade e a identidade de uma mulher que não é só vítima de suas circunstâncias. nojento, violento e muito interessante.
