O livro é sobre fracassados desse mundo, pessoas que nunca se dão bem. Mas não há um tom de depressão ou auto penitencia. Há um modo de abraçar essa característica, aceitar o fundo do poço como ele é, ao mesmo que arrancar algumas risadas dessa decadência e humor ácido. Um dos pontos fortes do livro é nunca explicar demais, apenas contar a história e dela você tirar suas conclusões. A conhecida regra mostre não conte. Nada de emoções dos personagens super explicitadas, mas sim ambientes e situações, das quais você pode inferir.
Nothing Ever Happens Here (melhor de todos por motivos de identificação, aquele menino do interior que é alguma coisa em sua cidade, mas ao ir para uma maior é só qualquer um, fracassado, com medo e saudades da mãe, tem a melhor e mais direta lição de moral de todos)
The Beach Boy (excelente, sem falhas, de algum modo me lembrou Six Feet Under, final perfeito)
Dancing in the Moonlight (claramente eu, o titular tem alguns transtornos, final excelente, talvez o melhor, assim como um dos que mais chegou ao fim do poço – roubar bebida nds bares e ser expulso depois - a polonesa do bar roubou a cena)
Bettering Myself (funciona muito bem como uma introdução ao que está por vir)

A partir daqui os contos são ok:
Mr Wu (me identifico muito com Mr Wu, ótimo final)
The Weirdos (desse daqui eu ri demais do idiota que é o namorado e dos tipos de pessoas presentes)
Malibu (esse conto foi nojento ao mesmo que bem triste)
The Looked Room
A Better Place (o único mais arriscado em forma de metáfora que dá a justificativa ao título, é o que deixa mais aberto a interpretações)
No Place for Good People
A Dark and Wiming Room (realmente não entendi a proposta, o que me esqueci mais facilmente e menos deixou algo de memorável, mesmo assim não chega a ser ruim)
