É um livro que puxa para a comédia com várias sacadas interessantes e um casal que distorce os valores convencionais como é a própria proposta da série - todos os protagonistas são vilões ou pertencem ao submundo.

A autora abusa dos clichês fornecendo Hattie (a mocinha que quer ser independente e sublevar a sociedade londrina) e Witt (o brutamontes que na verdade é um "intelectual" nas horas vagas). Infelizmente, MacLean tenta forçar o drama e a tensão entre eles e perde alguns bons momentos de piada.

A ressalva fica para a promessa de devassidão que se dá logo no primeiro capítulo... mas que não se completa.
