Seguindo os acontecimentos do volume anterior: Akira despertou, e o leitor por fim descobre seu paradeiro.
Com isso, AKIRA 3 leva a trama para outro nível: Tomar posse de Akira.
Há várias pessoas com diferentes intenções tentando acessar o poder de Akira, e isso acaba tornando uma história de "pique-pega", onde um grupo tenta tomar pra si.
Tetsuo não aparece com destaque nessa história, o que deixa ele um pouco de lado para dar mais destaque aos outros personagens. Outro ponto que eu gostaria de ressaltar é a evolução como personagem de Kaneda e Kei.
Ao fim do mangá, a história toma um rumo que precede uma mudança radical na narrativa da história.
