Villette é uma história tão real e profunda. Tem tudo o que os fãs de Charlotte Brontë amam. Uma jovem sem heranca, sem família, sem posição social, sem título, sem pretensões de matrimônio em busca da independência financeira, de um lugar no mundo, tudo isso com um toque de gótico. Lucy Snowe não é a corajosa e desafiadora Jane Eyre, mas ela é talvez mais real exatamente por isso. Ela é tímida e resignada, mas não menos lutadora. Ela é aquela pessoa cuja história muitos diriam que não vale a pena ser contada. Ela não está sob os holofotes. Mas Charlotte mostra brilhantemente que toda história merece ser contada. Jane Eyre é a pessoa que eu gostaria de ser, mas Lucy Snowe é a pessoa que eu sou.
