The novel follows 25-year-old Steven, who dwells in a faceless American city with his sadistic mother ("the Hagbeast"), his only friend a crippled dog named Dog. His life takes a dramatic turn when he takes a slaughterhouse job and is quickly initiated into the factory's bloody and darkly sexual brotherhood.

Then he meets upstairs neighbor Lucy, who is obsessed with vivisection, and starts to believe there may be a ray of light in his otherwise nightmarish life.

What follows is a phantasmagoria of extreme violence, death, sex, bestiality, self-surgery, torture, and a really, really, really bad mother-son relationship, all of which takes what the marquis de Sade did and pushes it down the road a little farther.

Nojento, repulsivo, doentio... Mas interessante...

Esse livro com certeza não é pra qualquer um e acredito que muitos não vão conseguir ler até o final, e não se sinta mal por isso. A história tem MUITAS passagens nojentas que não detalharei aqui por serem bastante gráficas e também há momentos que me fizeram questionar o porquê de estar lendo esse livro. E é a "jornada do herói" que te instiga a continuar lendo, o futuro que ele promete a si mesmo ao passar por certas experiências grotescas que te prende e te faz ir adiante para saber o que ainda está por vir. Se não fosse por toda a nojeira, ele receberia 5 estrelas facilmente.
