Dual POV, diferentes linhas temporais e temática de guerra. Um romance cheio de tensão!

Nesse livro acompanhamos a história de duas protagonistas. De um lado, temos Caroline Williams, que busca respostas sobre seu passado. Do outro, no passado, Céline Durand, em meio à guerra, enfrentando desafios que moldam seu destino.

A história de Caroline se passa na França, em 2009. Somos apresentados a ela de um jeito trágico: logo no primeiro capítulo acompanhamos um acidente onde ela está envolvida e ficamos sabendo que ela perde a memória.

Após uma semana no hospital, Caroline precisa retomar sua vida. O pessoal do hospital não encontra nenhum parente dela então decide enviá-la de volta ao lugar que conseguiram encontrar como pertencendo a ela: um apartamento de 3 quartos, na rue Cler, em Paris. Acontece que ela realmente não se lembra de nada (nem do apartamento) e precisa investigar um pouco sobre si mesma.

A história de Céline se passa também na França, mas mais ou menos 60 anos antes da história de Caroline. Ela mora com seu pai Claude, filho de judeus, e sua filha pequena Cosi. Seu marido, Pierre, morreu tragicamente em um acidente e nunca chegou a saber que Céline esperava um filho.

É claro que a história dessas duas protagonistas se cruza em algum momento, como é comum em livros de diferentes linhas temporais. Só não vou contar nada mais sobre como isso acontece para não deixar spoilers por aqui.

A leitura me surpreendeu pela maneira como costura passado e presente - foi um pouco diferente do que estou acostumada - e gostei disso. Infelizmente o livro ainda não foi publicado aqui no Brasil e nem sei se será. Se você gosta de livros com essa temática e consegue ler em inglês, pode ser uma boa dica.
